What is ATIEC?
It is the Ecuadorian Association of Translators and Interpreters and the first association of its type which was organized to support professional translators and interpreters in the country.
Why did you decide to create ATIEC?
Ecuador has a large number of people offering translation and interpretation services to and from a wide range of languages. We wanted to create an association that would group professionals who would provide great quality services. ATIEC will represent its members before businesses and the government and at the same time, provide support services to its members.
Is ATIEC legally incorporated?

The Ministry of Education approved, on September 12, 2007, the incorporation of ATIEC, through Ministerial Agreement No. 344.
How much do the members of the Board earn when they carry out activities related to ATIEC?
Nothing. On a voluntary basis, we are investing time and money for activities related to the Association. We meet every week to coordinate the work we do every day. ATIEC is and will be a nonprofit association.
Does ATIEC establish how much members should charge?
The Ecuadorian Association of Translators and Interpreters (ATIEC) has decided to not get involved in the issue of prices charged by members to their clients for services rendered. ATIEC believes that each member should independently set rates and prices and if a member recommends ranges or values to any customer or company, they do so in an individual manner. Additionally, the views and opinions of any member on this issue do not represent the views or opinions of ATIEC.
Does ATIEC have a political or religious orientation, or of any other kind?
No.
Does ATIEC also admit translators who do not work in English?
Yes, ATIEC has members who work in all kinds of language pairs.
Is an ATA certification required to become an ATIEC member?
No, ATIEC also accepts other international certifications and will soon offer a national certification program.
Will there be another time when ATA will hold an exam sitting in Quito or in another city in Ecuador?
The ATA does not hold exam sittings outside the United States by its own initiative. The exam sittings were held in Quito since ATIEC's Board of Directors requested this.
What are the membership requirements and how much does it cost?
